Blankenese to Mienenbuttel – 26km

Terrain: serious off road, cycle routes and road
After Bob and I experienced the daily commute out from the center of Hamburg back to Blankanese to continue my route, we had to tackle this! The only way down.
So we bumped our way down very slowly soon to find the ferry station to cross the Elbe.
Ironman Bob about to take a running jump into the Elbe!
Another ferry ride for Bob and I also met this guy Joerg, 5 time Ironman! Awesome!
Really nice to have someone to chat to during the crossing (he was trying to convince me that Ironman wasn’t that hard!).
Then once I’d worked out where I was (due to a low tide, the ferry dropped us at a different place), off I went.
A few cool things along the way today.
Went past the Airbus factory both on the ferry and by foot. Joerg had explained to me that quite a few of the Airbus planes are actually built here and those built in Toulouse are flown to Hamburg to be painted. I’ve never really paid much attention to which plane I’m in (Airbus vs Boeing) but it made me think of my Dad as it’s something I always remember him noticing when traveling together when I was younger.
There was even a viewing platform outside the factory grounds (which are HUGE) for the plane spotters among us.
Went through apple orchard land. It was so tempting to grab one but managed to restrain myself!
And more honesty boxes for the sale of apples. This one surprised me a little as it was still a pretty built up area not too far from Hamburg. People must be very honest here!
And then right at the end, came across these guys to end the day with a smile.
Dad does the exact same with me. EVERY time. I’m like “yep awesome. aren’t boeing and airbus the same company”. He doesn’t like that. I think it’s the only time in his life he wishes he had a boy.
Superb post but I was wanting to know if you could write a litte more on this topic? I’d be very thankful if you could elaborate a little bit more. Kudos!
Hi there! Do you use Twitter? I’d like to follow you if that would be ok. I’m absolutely enjoying your blog and look forward to new posts.
