Today is a milestone. Over 1,430km into this wondrous journey and I am in France! Having been through Poland, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium, I am officially in my birth country, where I spent most of my youth growing up and am so happy to be here!
A bit disappointed not to have the proper France sign upon crossing the border earlier to mark the occasion but I guess that’s what happens when you try to avoid the main thoroughfares.
I’m now slowly inching my way towards my parents’ place near Paris to spend a few days there before continuing and am genuinely excited about discovering more of this beautiful country.
I’m also really excited about visiting my old school and hopefully talking to the students there about this project.
It’s now just over 2 months since I started in Unieradz (in Poland) and it feels like yesterday and a lifetime ago at the same time. I’ve seen so much, had so much time to reflect, met such kind and wonderfully generous people and I’ve already learnt a lot about myself (good and bad). Not every day is easy for sure but it’s all a process of personal growth, overcoming challenges, pushing beyond my comfort zone and seeing what is possible. Hopefully, there’s a lot more to come!
I’ve had the most amazing support from family and friends so far and couldn’t be more grateful or feel more fortunate for having the opportunity to live this life for a while. Thank you, thank you.
On top of it all, I’m currently sitting in an orchard in the sun writing this, life doesn’t get much better. Bonjour la France!

The darker mornings are now setting in. I think I’ll be starting in the dark before long so need some lights for Bob so we can look like a walking Christmas tree!
Boy, was I happy to see this path after negotiating with a few lorries this morning. Check out the sign, I’ve never seen one like this before (click on the photo to enlarge).
Having officially crossed the border, this road was pretty interesting. Belgium on one side of the road and France on the other (not sure why the US flag was so prominent though).
Lots more hills today, not sure if you can really tell by the pic but my legs are certainly feeling it!
Even went past an archeological dig in a town called Bavay.
