100 days! Woop! Who would have thought? Certainly not me.
I want to start today’s post by thanking my family and friends (and people I have never met) for the phenomenal love and support I have received so far, it warms my heart and I feel truly honoured. I really can’t thank you enough, it means so much and I feel grateful every single day to have such wonderful people in my life.
I think one of the most interesting things so far has been the continuous flow between the physical and mental aspects of this challenge. Some days, it feels more physical, others more mental and it seems to go in phases, particularly from a mental perspective. Other days are just a pure delight, like today.
It’s been interesting to see myself evolve through the process so far, dealing with the positive and negative thoughts and reasoning with myself (interesting when you’re the only one to reason with). One thing is for sure, grey and wet weather is a definite mood dampener.
Today however was perfect. Blue skies from the get go and once it warmed up (a chilly 6C this morning) it was glorious.
And this is how it started. Nature, I love you!!!

Today’s milestone also brings me back to the reason I started this challenge, inspired by my grandmother’s journey as a refugee after the second world war and wanting to raise awareness for the plight of refugees across the world today.
I continue to listen to podcasts every day including the BBC’s newshour which mainly covers international news. There is just so much going on in the world affecting innocent people, particularly in the middle east and Africa. IS and the conflict in Ukraine along with Ebola are more often than not in the headlines. But there are many other conflicts in Africa in particular that don’t even hit the headlines (Central African Republic, crisis in Libya, issues in South Sudan, Somalia, to name a few).
All of these resulting in people having to leave their homes, becoming forcibly displaced. It is simply wrong when innocent people are made to suffer.
I am making sure that the funds I raise from this challenge and that people have so very kindly donated to the British Red Cross (I really can’t thank you enough) are attributed to specific emergency appeals to help refugees get back on their feet across the world. It’s difficult to begin to imagine what these people go through.
I continue to believe that everyone deserves a place that they can call home. We are all human beings in the end, we all smile, laugh, cry, feel fear and anxiety, happiness and joy. Despite differences in culture, language, religion, beliefs, we are fundamentally all connected by the very fact that we are human.
