Terrain: a bit of sand (eek), off road gravel and road.
Today’s route was really quite beautiful. There’s just something about the south of France in warm weather. Going through these forests, the smell of pine mixed with other vegetation is just so familiar and special. It makes me smile.
After following roads that ran along the motorway for the first section today, I then had to turn off to head in the direction of Lesperon. But there was sand, arrhh! Not half as bad as the other day thank goodness (I think I’m slightly traumatised by that experience). There was only a little bit in the end and it was largely covered by grass so Bob didn’t sink thankfully.
Then gravel, then road so all good. Apologies for the boring detail, but road surfaces have taken on a new meaning!

I’m heading to Dax tomorrow which I’m looking forward to. A French spa town that appears to do 21 day cures. Looks like you can even get a doctor’s prescription to spend time there, how cool is that?!
I’m going to take a rest day there. It’s only been 5 days but I like it when my rest days fall on a weekend so I can contact the people I love more easily. I also feel like my body might be grateful.
By big debate at the moment is whether I go over the Pyrenees and have Bob couriered ahead or whether I go the coastal way via Biarritz. I can’t avoid the Pyrenees completely but I can limit the amount of elevation I have to deal with. Hmmmm.

Ils passent par St Jean Pied de Port, puis la côte raide jusqu’ au refuge d’Orisson
et une grande descente sur Roncesvalles mais tu dois savoir tout cela!
