#Day157 Initial distance achieved! SO HAPPY

Pulpi to Garrucha– 28km
18C
Terrain: roads

IMG_4530The initial distance I was due to cover in this challenge was 3,370km (prior to route changes which have added about 500 km).

I’ve done it! Wooooohooooo!

I set out to cover that distance and today, I crossed the 3,370km line, I simply can’t believe it and am so so happy.

For me, anything beyond this point is a bonus so I’m going to enjoy it as much as possible.

Setting out on this vivrunseurope project, I wanted to raise awareness and funds for refugees across the world, inspired by my grandmother’s journey as a refugee after the 2nd World War. I hope that I’ve managed to do that if only a little.

I also had no idea how far I’d get, even past the first few days which is why every milestone has been so exciting. I’ve pushed myself further than I thought I could and more than I’ve ever done before. So far, there have been some real lows (injuries, health issues, loneliness) and some amazing highs (meeting people, generosity of people, experiencing nature in such a pure way, speaking to school children).

There have been a couple of points when I wanted to throw in the towel, I’m ashamed to say it but it’s true. During those moments, it really was just a case of breaking everything down into really tiny achievable chunks and continuing to put one foot in front of the other until the ‘blues’ passed. Not always as easy as it sounds but it worked.

I have been completely and utterly blown away by the love and support I have received so far from my amazing family and friends and even from people I have never met. The messages I have received simply warm my heart and make me feel so incredibly grateful and fortunate. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I’ve proven to myself that something that I felt was almost impossible at the beginning but I’d give it my best shot, is possible and it’s such an amazing feeling and lesson for me.

If I am able to inspire only one person to push beyond their limits (not necessarily sports related) and if I have been able to spread the word about refugees just a little bit, it would be amazing.

I always wanted to cover the distance before Christmas and I’ve done it! (even though there’s still more to go) I will keep going but my initial objective is achieved and I am so so happy, yay!

Thank you all for the most incredible support along the way so far. Let’s get to Tarifa!

HUGE LOVE TO ALL!

  1. Absolutely speechless. In awe of your achievement and so incredibly proud of you my lovely. Your messages give so much hope and inspiration to so many people and for such a worthwhile cause. You have without a doubt raised everyone’s awareness of the plight of refugees and proved that the we can do better even in our daily lives. I remember the day I left you in Germany I was filled with such apprehension and anxiety and look at you now. Keep going and lets get to Tarifa. Anything is possible.
Love you so so very much. Mum xxxx

  2. Congratulations 🙂

You´ve done a very very great thing!
With your current post I became really aware of the meaning and importance of your run. (Sorry for the time it took 😉 The issue of refugees is currently more important than ever. It is essential to take the people’s fear of the foreign and unknown, and to show them that we all live together on a small blue planet in the endless space. This is our common home! Nobody should be a stranger you have to be afraid of, everybody should be a roommate whom we help if he is in trouble.

I am very thankful that we met in Rendsburg and I got the chance to keep tracking your run till today 🙂

Carry on as you made it this far, and all the best

    Bernd
